(1350-01) Better understanding turfgrass diseases and the basics of prediction models could provide valuable information to help you benefit from available online risk maps. In this seminar, we will introduce the fundamental aspects of disease epidemiology with turfgrass diseases as case studies. Then, some of the online risk maps (i.e., Smith-Kerns dollar spot model) and their applications will be discussed. We will also introduce the new generation of prediction models (machine learning) and plans for the deployment of these tools. We will use a combination of live polling, group and open discussion, and evaluation of case studies to engage the audience. Join us to learn the importance of using turfgrass disease forecasting systems, be able to promote healthy turfgrass, and minimize unnecessary fungicide applications. You’ll walk away with a better understanding of how environmental conditions and management practices affect turfgrass and disease development and be able to identify and use accurate risk maps that could save your course tons of money.
