(1353-01) Though trees can bring great amenity and functionality to a golf course, they can also cause significant stress on turf, reduce the quality of the playing surface, increase the workload of staff, necessitate an increase in the maintenance budget and pose a liability for people and property. Removing at least some of them through a research-based, common-sense methodology will result in healthier turf, lowered maintenance costs, alignment with the course masterplan, and reduced conflicts with stakeholders. At the outset, it’s critical to acknowledge that removing or modifying trees on a golf course can be politically charged. This seminar will provide key information and talking points to persuade decision makers to remove or modify existing trees based on identifying problematic areas near trees and showing that proactive action is necessary to produce positive results.
