Fereshteh Shahoveisi, Ph.D.

Fereshteh (Angel) Shahoveisi, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the University of Maryland. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s at Tehran University and her Ph.D. in plant pathology at North Dakota State University. She also holds a College Teaching Certificate. During her Ph.D., she was trained to be an epidemiologist and explored the application of machine learning in plant pathology. She also worked on the genetics of host resistance where she developed mapping populations and conducted QTL mapping analyses. As a postdoctoral researcher, she worked on different aspects of plant disease management including population genetics, molecular biology, genetic mapping, and chemical management. Shahoveisi believes there is a lot of room for incorporating new technologies into the management of turfgrass diseases.
