Manuel Roman Chavarria Sanchez, Ph.D.

Manuel Chavarria, Ph.D., is Research Associate in the Agronomy Department, University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla. His research is focused on cultural management subjects regarding to home lawns, sports fields, parks and recreations, and golf courses. Chavarria has extensive experience with warm- and cool-season turfgrasses working closely with several international chemical companies such Petro Canada “Intelligro”, Adama, Syngenta, Bayer, Nufarm, Neudorff, and Engage Agro evaluating the benefits of new formulations in comparison to standard products to control diseases, weeds, and insects. Chavarria lately joined the University of Florida after being the Lead Scientist at the Prairie Turfgrass Research Centre at Olds College Centre for Innovation, Alberta Canada. He earned his PhD in Molecular Environmental Plant Science from Texas A&M University. Chavarria’s doctorate work was part a component of the USDA-NIFA Specialty Crops Research Project, a four-year, multi-state and multi-university project that involved collaboration with five other land grant institutions across the southeastern U.S. His research focused on salinity tolerance screenings of advance experimental lines of warm-season turf. Chavarria has published in peer-review and trade journals.
