Paul L Raymer, Ph.D.

Paul Raymer, Ph.D., is a professor at the University of Georgia’s Griffin Campus where he leads the turfgrass breeding program and conducts research. His turfgrasss breeding program is focused on the development of improved cultivars of seashore paspalum, tall fescue, and creeping bentgrass for a range of fine turf and environmental applications. Goals are to develop cultivars for high-stress environments with improved salt tolerance, drought tolerance, and disease resistance. Research interests include genetics of salinity tolerance in grasses, development of herbicide resistance systems for turfgrasses, transgenic breeding, and use of enzymes to alleviate localized dry spot and control thatch.
