James A Murphy, Ph.D.
James A. Murphy, Ph.D., is an extension specialist in turfgrass management at Rutgers University. He earned his bachelor's at Western Illinois University and master's and Ph.D. at Michigan State University. Murphy’s research interests include understanding the role that cultural management practices can play for improving the stress tolerance and persistence of turf. He serves as the Rutgers University liaison to both the GCSA of New Jersey and the New Jersey Turfgrass Association.
Murphy has received many awards including Fellow in Crop Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy, the Outreach Excellence Award from the NJ Agricultural Experiment Station at Rutgers, the Hall of Fame Award from the New Jersey Turfgrass Association, the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Team Research/Outreach Award, and the Seed Research of Oregon Inc. Excellence in Research Award. He has been a GCSAA faculty member since the mid-1990s, teaching seminars and the "BMPs for the Control of Anthracnose" webinar with Bruce Clarke, Ph.D.
